90-Minute In-Person EMDR Therapy Intensives for Perinatal Grief and Birth Trauma
Reston, VA
When you've experienced a traumatic birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal loss, the grief isn’t just emotional—it’s physical, mental, and deeply embedded in your nervous system. The aftermath can feel relentless: flashbacks, panic, guilt, insomnia, and a constant sense of dread. This is more than grief—this is trauma.
At Regnier Restorative Counseling, I offer 90-minute in-person EMDR therapy intensives for women navigating the heartbreak and trauma of pregnancy loss and birth trauma. These longer sessions are designed to create space for deeper healing, faster relief, and more meaningful progress than traditional 50-minute therapy—especially when you're carrying the weight of how it all happened.
Why Choose a 90-Minute In-Person EMDR Intensive?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most effective therapies for trauma, especially when the trauma is tied to physically and emotionally overwhelming events like a traumatic delivery or perinatal loss. For many women, standard session lengths simply aren’t long enough to fully engage with the layers of grief and trauma they’re holding.
Here’s how these extended sessions help:
-Deeper trauma reprocessing: 90 minutes allows us to access and work through the most distressing moments without feeling rushed.
-Stronger emotional safety: In-person work creates a calm, connected environment where your nervous system can begin to regulate.
-Fewer days stuck in trauma: More progress in one session means fewer days living with distress between sessions.
-Intentional, focused healing: These sessions are structured to support your mind and body in moving toward clarity and calm—not emotional overwhelm.
Why In-Person Instead of Virtual?
Virtual EMDR is highly effective and still an option I offer. But for birth trauma and postpartum PTSD, many women feel more grounded and supported in-person.
In-person EMDR intensives provide:
-A dedicated, peaceful therapy space—not the same room where you’re parenting, grieving, or working
-Fewer distractions and a more immersive experience
-Nervous system co-regulation and attuned, face-to-face support
-The opportunity to include body-based grounding tools that aren’t as effective online
Who Are These Sessions For?
These intensives are designed for women who have experienced:
-Miscarriage, stillbirth, or fetal loss
-Traumatic labor or delivery
-NICU trauma or neonatal loss
-Postpartum PTSD, anxiety, or numbness after a traumatic birth
-You may benefit if you’ve been saying:
"I keep reliving the worst moments in the delivery room."
"I can’t sleep and feel constantly on edge."
"I’ve tried therapy before, but nothing’s helped me feel better."
"I want to feel something other than panic or guilt."
Whether this trauma happened weeks or years ago, it’s never too soon—or too late—to begin healing.
What Happens in a 90-Minute EMDR Session?
Each session is thoughtfully structured to support both depth and emotional safety:
Grounding & Preparation (15–20 minutes):
-We check in, explore what’s coming up, and use calming strategies to help you feel safe.
EMDR Reprocessing (50–60 minutes):
-Using bilateral stimulation, we target the most painful and stuck memories related to your pregnancy, delivery, or loss.
Closing & Integration (10–15 minutes):
-We wrap up gently with grounding and reflection so you leave feeling more centered—not raw or overwhelmed. How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Healing is not one-size-fits-all. Some clients feel significant relief after just a few sessions. Others may need more time and support. We’ll create a plan together based on your needs, history, and goals. You don’t have to commit to long-term therapy unless you choose to.
